Hosted by: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society-BC; Elders Council for Parks in BC: University of Victoria Marine Protected Areas Group: & the Ocean Management Research Network
In December 1995 the first multi-stakeholder MPA forum was convened in Cowichan Bay to discuss issues related to establishing a network of marine protected areas on the BC coast. Fourteen years later our goal is to review what progress has been made toward achieving a network of MPAs on the BC coast, and what the opportunities and challenges are for advancing the network.
The forum will provide an opportunity for developing relationships and engaging in open and collaborative conversations among MPA managers and practitioners from federal and provincial agencies, First Nations, the conservation community and industry. We will discuss the current status of MPAs on the coast, new initiatives and future possibilities.
